Nallodor veenai - a poem by Subramanya Bharati

 Nallodor veenai -

by Mahakavi Subramanya Bharati

Does one throw away to refuse,

A  beautiful veena created  for melodies?

Speak now, O Shiva-Shakti, of your purport

To have nurtured this bright intellect in me?

Give now, O mother, audacious prowess

To make me lead a life serving your world!

Speak now, O Shiva-Shakti, would you make it

Just a life laden with burdens on this earth?

Give me a body that obeys my will like

A ball powered by a forceful throw;

Give me a mind that constricts not and

A spirit that is born anew every day;

Give  me a Heart that sings your praise, O Shiva-Shakti

Even when my body is scorched by fire;

Give me a Will that is unmoved by the world-

What stops thee from blessing  me now?
